Scott McConnell marks his twelfth year with Birch Creek in 2026. He is an active steelpan/percussion performer in a variety of styles throughout the Chicagoland area. McConnell has performed with the Illinois Festival Orchestra, Carpe Diem String Quartet, as well as South East, Starlift, and Harmonites Steel Orchestras to name a few. He is also an educator serving as the director of Steel Orchestras with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras, percussion faculty and rock ensemble instructor at Lewis University, as well as percussion and steelband instructor at Elgin Community College. Alongside McConnell’s ensemble teaching, he maintains a private lesson studio teaching students of all ages. He is also an education artist for Vic Firth, Zildjian, and Mike Balter.
