Nic Meyer

Nic Meyer is the Director of Jazz Ensembles at New Trier High School, where his Jazz Ensemble 1 has earned recognition through performances at the Chicago Jazz Festival, Jazz Education Network Conference, and Illinois Music Educators’ Conference. Under his direction, the ensemble has opened for Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra at Snug Harbor in New Orleans and Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra at Birdland in New York City.
New Trier jazz students have participated in workshops and masterclasses with members of the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Delfeayo Marsalis and his band, and the Juilliard Jazz faculty. The ensembles have also shared the stage with acclaimed artists including Joey DeFrancesco, Christian McBride, Dennis Mackrel, Lauren Sevian, Terell Stafford, Seamus Blake, Tanya Darby, and Alexa Tarantino.
Recent New Trier jazz students have been selected for prestigious programs including the Brubeck Summer Jazz Colony, the GRAMMY Jazz Band, the Vail Jazz Workshop, the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra at the Monterey Jazz Festival, and the YoungArts program.
Meyer is a faculty member at Birch Creek and an active clinician, adjudicator, and guest speaker throughout the Midwest. He holds degrees from DePaul University, Northwestern University, and McGill University. In addition to teaching, Meyer performs as a saxophonist in Chicago.
