John Sturino

John Sturino is an award-winning composer-arranger, drummer-percussionist, and bandleader based in New York City.
He is the bandleader, composer, and drummer of the New York-based ensemble BLOW GLOBE, a ten-person chamber group that captures the breadth of a full wind orchestra within an intimate ensemble. Sturino and BLOW GLOBE were recipients of the Chamber Music America New Jazz Works Commission Grant in 2024. The ensemble released its debut album BLOW GLOBE in June 2025 on the Outside In Music label.
As a composer, Sturino was awarded the David Baker Prize from the Ravinia Steans Institute for his work A Boundless Design (2025), which blends jazz and classical string quartet traditions into a refined, distinctive sound. He is active as a composer-arranger for hire, working with ensembles of varying sizes around the world. Recent commissions and performances include works for the Danish Radio Big Band, Michael Mayo, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Philip Dizack, the University of Denver Lamont School of Music, and the Swiss Jazz Orchestra Basel.
Sturino maintains an active career as a drummer-percussionist, performing and recording both nationally and internationally. He has worked with the Dizzy Gillespie All-Stars Big Band and Small Group, Summer Camargo, Miho Hazama’s m_unit, Robert Edwards, Jennifer Wharton’s BONEGASM, and the Jihye Lee Jazz Orchestra.
He is a Yamaha Drumset Artist, Prologix Artist, and Vic Firth Educational Artist.
