Cello | Orland Park, IL

Emily Lewis Mantell received her bachelor’s degree from the Chicago Musical College (now called Chicago College of Performing Arts) at Roosevelt University, where she studied with Karl Fruh. She is a member of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra and Chicago Sinfonietta and has held principal positions with Civic Orchestra of Chicago, IPO, Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra, and the Bolshoi Ballet, among others. She has played with various Chicago area ballets, operas, and musicals, and teaches privately from her home studio in Orland Park as well as adjunctly in two local universities. Emily goes back a long way with the Birch Creek symphony session. Between 1985 and the present, she has come as a Performers Assistant, Teaching Assistant, and for 29 years as a faculty member. Her daughter Sonia (a Birch Creek alum!) is a member of the Minnesota Orchestra cello section.
